Healing Rain

My grandmother Judy Rawlings passed away August 9th 2011. Our family flew to Tulsa Oklahoma for the funeral service. It had been a really long time since all five of us sisters had been together in one place (and without any kids). What an incredible weekend it was to be with my sisters and my parents. It was nice to spend that time talking, crying and healing.

There were two stories from this weekend that I would like to share. The first, was while my sisters and I were waiting at the airport for another sister to arrive. The air was humid and thick. You could feel it soak into your skin the moment you walked outside. Soon, rain came pouring down. It sounded like rocks hitting the car. Soon Laura came out of baggage claim, and we ran over to her for a big group hug. Jen had the idea of dancing through the rain. It was glorious.
Ann later called it the "healing rains" as it washed away all of my burdens and sadness that I was carrying.

Earlier that day, my mom and dad were sitting in the viewing room, and noticed how bare the room was around my grandmothers casket. My mom turned to my dad and said that they needed to go get some flowers to fill this room. Just minutes later, the funeral director came into the room and asked if it would be alright if he brought in some of the flowers. Vase after vase after vase from family and friends were brought into the room. It was what my Grandmother wanted.
